The Story of Namilyango

Namilyango College stands proudly as Uganda's first and oldest secondary school, founded in 1902 by the Mill Hill Missionaries on the peaceful hilltop of Namilyango, approximately six kilometres southwest of Mukono Town in central Uganda.

The school was born from a vision of holistic education — one that would nurture the intellectual, spiritual, moral and physical development of young Ugandan men. From its very first classroom, Namilyango became a crucible for leaders, thinkers and nation-builders.

Over twelve decades, the school has evolved from a small mission school with a handful of students into a fully-fledged national institution offering O-Level (S1–S4) and A-Level (S5–S6) programmes, while consistently ranking among Uganda's very best performing secondary schools.

The school's motto — "Education for Responsibility" — captures the timeless conviction that knowledge without moral purpose is incomplete. Every student who walks through the gates of Namilyango is shaped not only to succeed but to serve.

Our Purpose

Mission & Vision

Our Mission

To provide a holistic, faith-based secondary education that nurtures young men of intellect, integrity and faith — equipping them with the knowledge, values and skills to serve their communities, nation and the world with responsibility and compassion.

We achieve this through academic rigour, spiritual formation, character development and participation in a rich range of extracurricular activities in a safe, inclusive boarding environment.

Our Vision

To be East Africa's premier secondary school — a globally respected institution that continually produces principled, intellectually excellent and spiritually grounded graduates who shape the future of their communities and nations.

We envision a Namilyango where every student discovers their unique gift, grows into their potential, and leaves equipped to make a lasting difference in the world.

What We Stand For

Our Core Values

Six pillars that define life at Namilyango — from the classroom to the chapel to the sports field.

Academic Excellence

We challenge every student to reach their fullest intellectual potential. Rigorous academics, critical thinking and a love of learning are at the heart of what we do.

Faith & Spirituality

Rooted in Catholic traditions, we nurture a genuine faith that is personal, inclusive and life-giving — forming men of conscience and compassion.

Moral Integrity

Character is formed through daily choices. We cultivate honest, courageous and principled young men who act rightly even when it is difficult.

Community & Brotherhood

The bonds formed at Namilyango are lifelong. We value fellowship, teamwork and a shared commitment to the greater good of school and society.

Service & Leadership

True leadership is rooted in service. We prepare students for positions of influence by teaching them to lead with empathy, humility and purpose.

Global Citizenship

We shape men with a broad worldview — aware of global challenges, respectful of diversity and equipped to make a difference beyond Uganda's borders.
