Namilyango College Rugby Legacy

Rugby has long been a pillar of pride at Namilyango College — a sport that embodies the discipline, teamwork, and resilience that our school stands for. Over the years, the game has evolved from being one of many co-curricular activities to becoming a defining part of who we are as a community.
At Namilyango, rugby is not just a sport; it is a culture. The boys who join the rugby program quickly understand that wearing the Namilyango jersey means carrying the weight of tradition and excellence. Every tackle, every pass, and every try tells the story of a legacy built over generations of determination and brotherhood.
Our college holds the record for the most National Schools Rugby Championships, and our teams consistently perform at the highest level in both national and regional competitions. In 2022, Namilyango proudly brought home the gold medal at the FEASSSA Games held in Arusha, Tanzania — a moment that reaffirmed our position as the home of school rugby in Uganda. Beyond that, we continue to dominate local and regional tournaments, with our Under-15, Under-17, and Under-20 teams all showing remarkable depth and talent.
The rugby program’s success is deeply tied to the spirit of mentorship that defines life at Namilyango. Coaches, teachers, and Old Boys work closely together to nurture not only skilled players but also responsible young men who uphold the school’s motto: Education for Responsibility. Many of our Old Boys have gone on to represent Uganda on the national stage, including standout players like Tony Nyangweso and the late Robert Seguya, whose careers have inspired countless students who follow in their footsteps.
Rugby at Namilyango is more than competition — it is about character. The discipline learned on the pitch translates into classroom focus, leadership, and resilience in life. Match days are always special; the entire community rallies behind the team, singing, cheering, and celebrating the unity that defines the “Ngonian Spirit.”
As we look ahead, the goal remains the same: to preserve the tradition, strengthen the program, and continue producing young men who make their school and country proud. Rugby will always hold a special place at Namilyango College — a true testament to our belief in excellence through effort and teamwork.
Namilyango College Football Program

At Namilyango College, football continues to play an important role in shaping our students’ sporting discipline, teamwork, and school spirit. While rugby may be the most celebrated sport within our walls, football remains a cornerstone of our co-curricular life, offering students an opportunity to express their talent and passion on the field.
The 2025 season has been both challenging and inspiring for our football team. In the FUFA TV Cup, our boys displayed great determination and tactical awareness as they faced Mengo Senior School in the Round of 32. Both legs ended in a hard-fought 0–0 draw, forcing the game into a penalty shootout. Unfortunately, Mengo SS edged us out 3–1, bringing our journey in the tournament to a close. Despite the result, the team’s composure, discipline, and sportsmanship throughout the competition were commendable.
Beyond the FUFA TV Cup, the Namilyango College football team has had an active season, taking part in several friendly and competitive fixtures. Earlier in the year, our boys recorded a well-deserved victory against Bishop SS Mukono — a performance that highlighted the growing confidence and unity within the squad. The team also held a series of practice games in June 2025 as part of our continuous development program aimed at improving fitness, coordination, and technical ability.
Football at Namilyango College goes beyond winning matches. It is a platform for character building, leadership, and camaraderie. The training sessions, morning drills, and weekend matches help our students develop resilience, teamwork, and respect — values that mirror the college’s mission of holistic education.
While rugby remains deeply rooted in our identity, football continues to thrive and attract passionate young players who proudly wear the school colors. The administration, coaches, and Old Boys community remain committed to strengthening the football program and ensuring that our students continue to compete honorably across all levels.
The Namilyango College football story is one of steady progress — built on discipline, effort, and belief. With each match, our players carry forward the school’s proud tradition of excellence in both academics and sport.
Basketball at the college
Basketball at Namilyango College continues to grow as one of the exciting co-curricular activities enjoyed by our students. The team actively participates in inter-school competitions and regional tournaments, proudly representing the College with discipline and teamwork.
During our Annual Sports Day, basketball remains one of the most anticipated events, drawing great enthusiasm from both players and supporters. The spirit of brotherhood is also kept alive through the NACOBA Sports Gala, where Old Boys engage in friendly basketball matches, reconnecting and celebrating the Namilyango bond.
Although Namilyango College is most renowned for its success in rugby and soccer, basketball has steadily gained its own space in the heart of the College’s sporting culture, offering students yet another platform to express their talent and school pride.
Hockey at the college
Hockey at Namilyango College continues to thrive under the banner of the Griffins, a team that embodies discipline, teamwork, and resilience. Over the years, the Griffins have represented the College with great pride, taking part in various secondary school competitions and showcasing the Namilyango spirit both on and off the field.

The team has registered impressive performances, including winning the Mukono Zone Championship in 2024 and competing against strong sides such as Naalya SS, Kakungulu Memorial School, and Makerere College School. Their dedication has also earned them qualification to the Nationals on more than one occasion.
The success of the Griffins is supported by partnerships with organizations such as the Uganda Hockey Association and Kampala Hockey Club, which have contributed equipment and training resources to aid the team’s development. The continued encouragement from the Namilyango community and Old Boys has further strengthened the team’s foundation, ensuring that hockey remains a valued part of the College’s vibrant sporting tradition.

Other Sports at the College
At Namilyango College, sports form an integral part of the students’ holistic development, and beyond the more publicized fields like rugby, football, and hockey, the College also nurtures a strong culture of indoor and individual sports such as tennis, badminton, chess, table tennis, and scrabble.
The tennis program has steadily grown over the years, with students training regularly on the school courts. The sport emphasizes discipline, focus, and endurance—qualities that align with the College’s values of excellence and self-mastery. The players often take part in inter-house and inter-school tournaments, where they display both sportsmanship and technical skill.
Badminton has also gained popularity among students, especially as a recreational and competitive sport during school events. It is often featured on the Annual Sports Day, where it attracts both participants and spectators. The fast-paced nature of the game provides a balance between fitness and fun, allowing students to unwind while staying active.
Other indoor games, including chess, scrabble, and table tennis, are common during club days and weekend activities. These games challenge students mentally, helping them sharpen their strategic thinking, concentration, and problem-solving skills.
Through these varied sporting disciplines, Namilyango College continues to uphold its long-standing commitment to producing well-rounded young men—physically fit, mentally alert, and spiritually grounded.
